Belén Mallol, also known as Perliiitas, is a multidisciplinary artist who utilizes a variety of media, including video, fanzines, illustration and painting, to construct spaces that encourage the exploration of non-binary/non-human narratives and the opening of alternative temporalities. She is also the director and curator of Videoclub, an event and platform dedicated to disseminating experimental audiovisual works, demonstrating a fervent commitment to expanding artistic and community horizons.
Perliiitas' research delves into the intersection between animality and the extreme rationality imposed on colonized bodies. Her work with individuals with functional diversity further fuels her mission to question notions of normality and promote integration through a reforestation of the imaginary.
In her artistic practice, she uses the search for discarded treasures, recycling and collage to create relationships, images, and ironies that highlight the remnants of a cruel past and challenge predominantly western meanings. She questions how hegemonic narratives guide society into traumatic events.
Her perspective and touch of dark humor challenge the binary narrative of the history of identity, trauma, and the healing process. Drawing inspiration from resilient figures in nature, shamanism, and myths, she seeks to open mental spaces that dismantle barriers restricting enjoyment and freedom, aiming to redefine grammar and inspire transformation
